Students will build on existing experience and knowledge while gaining insight into the science of fingerprints. They will learn about more advanced techniques for acquiring known exemplars, recovering and documenting unknown impressions, classifying and comparing more difficult impressions, and utilize the ACE-V and GYRO methodologies to render conclusions. This course will also provide an opportunity for students to train on equipment utilized by professionals and culminate with presenting their case work at a moot courtroom testimony. Prerequisites to become certified, or re-certified, as a latent print examiner include 176 hours of approved training (CEU's) within the last 5 years of application. This course is approved by the IAI for 35 hrs toward certification/recertification. This was the first course in NJ to be approved and only one other exists at this time.
